A TikTok video showing a young boy dangerously climbing and lying on a metal pole inside a moving KTM train has gone viral.
What raised even more concern was the fact that no one seemed to be supervising him.
The video, uploaded by user @liyaa04, captured the child balancing his entire body on the passenger handrail, typically meant for standing commuters to hold on to. He appeared completely unfazed by the danger.
Curious about what really happened, WeirdKaya reached out to the OP, who shared her firsthand experience of that night.
KTM ride turns worrying when child runs wild inside coach
Speaking exclusively to us, the OP told us that this incident took place on July 17 during her KTM journey from Sungai Petani to Butterworth.
Her ride started at around 8.35pm and ended at 10.00pm.
She recalled that the child wasn’t wearing any slippers and kept dashing around the coach.
A fellow passenger, an older woman seated nearby, told the OP that the boy didn’t seem to have a parent or guardian with him.
Concerned, the OP stood up to scan the area for any adult who might be accompanying him but didn’t spot anyone.
Meanwhile, the boy continued running wildly back and forth across the coach.
Eventually, a man and a younger girl came and sat near her cabin.
Not long after, the older boy climbed up and lay on the pole that standing passengers usually hold on to for support — the exact moment captured in the now-viral video.
Pressed the emergency button, but no KTM staff in sight
The situation became more concerning when the train stopped at a station.
Just as the doors were about to close, the child playfully stuck his hand between them for a moment before pulling it back out, a risky move that could’ve easily gone wrong.
Moments later, he reached out to touch the emergency button located next to the door.
The OP looked around to find a KTM staff member to report the incident to but couldn’t find anyone nearby.
Feeling uneasy, she decided to approach the man who had been sitting nearby.
She asked if the child was his son and informed him that the boy was lying on the bar, which could be extremely dangerous if he fell.
She also requested that the child be stopped from touching the emergency button, expressing concern that it might affect the train’s operations.
However, to her surprise, the man seemed completely unbothered by the warning.

Despite her efforts, the child ignored the advice given by both the OP and other passengers.
At one point, the boy walked past her again. She tried to advise him to sit down, but he didn’t listen.
Instead, he returned to lying on the pole as if nothing had happened.
Other passengers began recording the scene as the child continued his antics throughout the ride.
Although no harm occurred, the OP said she couldn’t help but feel uneasy about what could have gone wrong.
If anything unfortunate happens, it’s the child who will suffer the most. I know how painful it is when a bone breaks” she told us.
She added that she didn’t dare confront the father again, especially since he showed no concern for the child’s safety.
When asked whether the man and the child were Malaysian or foreigners, she confirmed that they were both locals.
While nothing serious happened this time, it could’ve easily gone the other way. Incidents like this show why it’s so important for adults to stay alert, whether you’re a parent or simply someone who cares.
