Malaysia’s Merdeka celebrations were filled with colour, lights and plenty of memorable moments this year.
From a futuristic float making its way through Putrajaya to Malaysian sporting heroes lighting up Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, U Mobile brought together innovation, national pride and inspiring stories in one meaningful celebration.
Here are some of the standout moments you may have spotted.
A Merdeka float where tradition meets the future

During the Merdeka Parade in Putrajaya, U Mobile’s vibrant float immediately caught the crowd’s attention with its futuristic design and uniquely Malaysian details.
At the centre of the float was a globe surrounded by an orbital ring, representing Malaysia’s connectivity and its continuous journey towards innovation and progress.
A powered up map of Malaysia also symbolised U Mobile’s nationwide coverage and ambition to empower Malaysians through ULTRA5G. Meanwhile, digital and artificial intelligence icons reflected the growing role of intelligent technology in shaping the country’s future.
Look a little closer and you would also notice U Mobile’s own batik motif, designed by Kapten Batik.
The same print was worn by the marching team, showing how Malaysia’s traditions can move forward alongside modern innovation.

Of course, it would not be a futuristic celebration without robots and the eye catching “Abang Sados”, who added an extra dose of fun to the parade.
Malaysian pride took over the night sky
The celebrations continued at Dataran Merdeka, where the night sky became a glowing canvas during Pesta Lampu.
Crowds looked up as the drone show formed the U Mobile and ULTRA5G logos above the city, creating one of the night’s most impressive sights.

U Mobile also joined Astro for a special projection mapping display on Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, combining stories of Malaysian athletes with a teaser for the upcoming movie TERBANG, which is set to hit cinemas on 17 September.
The display connected U Mobile’s support for Malaysian athletes with its sponsorship of TERBANG, bringing sports, entertainment and technology together through an emotional visual experience.
Members of the TERBANG cast were also part of the celebration, adding even more excitement to the evening.
Celebrating the stories behind our sporting heroes

Beyond the lights and spectacle, U Mobile and Astro also turned the spotlight towards Malaysian athletes through the “Semangat Membara, Untukmu Malaysia” campaign.
The campaign celebrates athletes who have made the country proud, not only through the medals they have won, but also through the sacrifices, determination and personal journeys behind every achievement.
While many Malaysians may recognise these sporting heroes by name, there is so much more to their stories than what we see during competitions.
Their journeys are filled with challenges, record breaking milestones and moments of perseverance that remind us what it truly means to carry the Malaysian spirit.
Discover their stories at Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad

Those who want to learn more can visit the special public art installation at Bangunan Sultan Abdul Samad, which will be on display until 16 September.

Here, visitors can get closer to the inspiring stories of Malaysian sporting heroes and discover the moments that shaped their journeys beyond the medals.

It is a meaningful way to celebrate Hari Kebangsaan and Hari Malaysia while recognising the athletes who continue to inspire the nation.
Through its futuristic parade float, dazzling light displays and tribute to Malaysian athletes, U Mobile showed that national progress is not only about moving forward with technology.

It is also about remembering the traditions, stories and people who bring Malaysians together.
The celebrations may have lit up Putrajaya and Kuala Lumpur, but the spirit behind them belongs to every Malaysian.
