If you’re planning to drive through KL this coming week, you might want to pause that plan.
From July 8 to 11, multiple roads in and around Kuala Lumpur will be partially or fully closed in stages for the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and its related events.
According to a statement by Bukit Aman Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, the closures are all part of ensuring smooth passage for international delegates and that means major motorcade moments ahead.
The Dry-run has already started
According to the statement, dry-run exercises began on July 4 and will continue until July 6.
These rehearsals involve 391 traffic personnel, including both senior and junior police officers, simulating the actual movement of VIP motorcades from KLIA to hotels in KL, and to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).
From July 7 to 11, three major highways and 15 main roads around the Klang Valley will face diversions and closures in stages.

Official diversions from July 7–11
Once the event officially kicks off, full deployment of road diversions will take place from July 7 to 11, affecting three major highways and 15 key roads in the Klang Valley.

Drivers, here’s what you can do
In his statement, Dato’ Sri Mohd Yusri reminded all road users to:
- Plan journeys early
- Avoid driving into KL city centre during peak times
- Use public transport to ease congestion
- Stay updated with announcements from PDRM
He also stressed that commercial and heavy vehicles should avoid entering downtown KL entirely during the diversion period to prevent unnecessary jams, vehicle damage, or accidents.
Why all this fuss?
The ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting is one of the region’s most significant diplomatic events, bringing together Southeast Asian leaders to discuss key issues like security, trade, and international cooperation.
With KLCC as the main venue and hotels located across the city, motorcades will be moving frequently and PDRM is going all out to ensure it happens smoothly.
