‘He Even Used My Credit Card!’ – M’sian Woman Regrets Marriage As Husband’s Salary Can’t Match Her Lifestyle

Financial compatibility.
What started as a sweet love story has now left a Malaysian woman questioning her life choices.

According to mStar, a woman’s husband’s low income has made her long for her single days—when she could afford her lifestyle without compromise.

The woman said that during their courtship, she didn’t mind his humble background.

But after marriage, the financial imbalance became more apparent, especially when she noticed even gifts were being bought using her own credit card.

He bought me presents… but used my credit card first, then paid it off in monthly installments,” she wrote, expressing deep regret. “I wish I could turn back time.”

“Don’t marry if you’re not financially compatible,” she advises

Without revealing how long she’s been married, the woman explained that couples should be financially “sekufu”—or compatible—before getting married.

If he can’t afford to maintain how you care for yourself during your single days, it’s going to be frustrating,” she added.

Her post hinted that she no longer feels emotionally or financially fulfilled.

Netizens divided

Reactions to her post have been mixed. While some sympathised with her, others slammed her for being ungrateful and superficial.

When we were dating, I accepted you as you were. After marriage, suddenly you’re not on my level.” one netizen sarcastically wrote.

“Everything is beautiful when dating. Don’t be blinded by love. Be realistic.”

Others pointed out that income differences should have been discussed long before the wedding. “If you’re going to calculate every sen, maybe marriage isn’t for you,” another user said.

Critics were quick to remind her that she made the decision to marry him.

Some went as far as calling her selfish for now wanting out of the relationship.

You chose him. Now that you’re tired, you want to turn back time? Let him go and find someone who truly accepts him,” a user commented.

Another added, “If he earned more, he wouldn’t need to settle for someone who can’t even appreciate effort.”

Financial compatibility becoming a major factor in modern marriages

This viral case has reignited debates over whether love is enough to sustain a marriage. Many agree that financial compatibility plays a crucial role in long-term happiness and should be addressed early in a relationship.

Experts advise couples to discuss spending habits, debt, savings, and expectations to avoid resentment and regret later on.
