A recent incident involving a remark made by Pos Malaysia CEO Charles Brewer sparked public concern, with many calling his response to a staff member “unprofessional.”
However, the Pos Malaysia Uniformed Staff Union has since come forward to clear the air, saying the situation was a misunderstanding and urging the public not to jump to conclusions.
Union steps in with clarification
The controversy began last Saturday when a statement by Brewer went viral on social media, prompting Pos Malaysia to release an official statement.
The following day, the union sought direct clarification from Brewer regarding the matter.
The union understands that it was never his intention to belittle the staff member; rather, there was a misunderstanding, and he has acknowledged his mistake,” read the union’s statement.
“We urge everyone not to blow the issue out of proportion or misinterpret his true intentions.”
Recognising Brewer’s track record
To further contextualise the situation, the union highlighted Brewer’s consistent efforts in building rapport with employees across all levels.
Since assuming his role, he has been known to personally engage with staff on the ground, including union members, to listen to their concerns and resolve issues together.
This ongoing engagement, the union stated, is reflective of Brewer’s leadership style and commitment to employee welfare.
Addressing the uniform concerns
The union also took the opportunity to address another issue that has been raised internally; delays in uniform distribution.
While staff were notified about receiving new uniforms, the rollout has been delayed this year due to enhancements in material quality.
To address this temporary issue, the Operations Management will be distributing Pos Malaysia jerseys to affected staff members,” the statement said.
“This process will be coordinated jointly by the union and management.”
Putting safety first
In addition to temporary uniform solutions, the company has also committed to improving workplace safety for its delivery staff.
This includes supplying essential safety items such as protective shoes and gloves.
These measures, the union noted, reflect the company’s responsiveness to employee needs and its commitment to providing a safer working environment.
As a final note, the union expressed gratitude towards Pos Malaysia for its willingness to supply uniforms beyond the limits set in the Collective Agreement, a move seen as a clear gesture of goodwill and concern for frontline employees.
Looking ahead, the union reaffirmed its ongoing cooperation with management to ensure that staff welfare remains a top priority.
For the benefit of all, the union and management will continue working closely together to address issues as they arise,” the statement concluded.
