Please design more pedestrian-friendly roads.
A group of youths was forced to climb over tall concrete barriers and dodge passing cars to cross a busy road, sparking a wave of criticism about poor urban planning.

According to a TikTok video posted by @idlaaann, the youths can be seen perched on the concrete dividers, waiting for cars to pass before making their way across in a dangerous manner.

The TikTok video, captioned “Friday Surfer” (Jumaat Surfer), referenced the popular game Subway Surfers and was set to the game’s background music, emphasizing the risk involved in the situation.

The group of teenagers was seen running on a concrete barrier, navigating through a narrow passage under a flyover bridge, right beside passing cars.

At the end of the video, they are shown waiting and signaling to oncoming cars in order to cross the busy road.

Failure in urban planning

The video was later shared by Facebook user “Wolfen Kan” in the “Malaysian Land Public Transport Fans” group, where it gained further traction.

“This is a failure in urban planning that ignores pedestrian safety,” Wolfen Kan stated, criticizing the lack of a pedestrian bridge in the area during the construction of the LRT 3 Shah Alam line.

A check on Google Maps showed that while speed humps and road bumps were installed on the road leading to a nearby mosque to curb speeding, the opposite lane only had speed bumps, which were less effective.
