TOKYO – Malaysian athlete Abdul Latif Romly did the nation proud by bagging the third Paralympic gold medal during the men’s long jump T20 event yesterday (Sept 4).
While Malaysians celebrated the victory on social media, many also paid tribute to Greece’s Athanasios Prodromou who rushed to check on Abdul Latif after the latter injured himself.
During the competition, Abdul Latif sustained an injury and sat in the sandpit in great pain after his fifth attempt.
At that moment, Prodromou quickly ran over to his side and requested for medical assistance.
Even after Abdul Latif was placed in a wheelchair, Prodromou continued to stand by in case he needed any help.

This display of sportsmanship won the hearts of Malaysians, who poured in tons of appreciative comments on Twitter.
In response, Prodromou posted an Instagram story thanking netizens for their kind words.
Thank you all very much for your love. You are unique!
Whether we win or lose, the most important thing is to show respect for one another! Good job Malaysians!
