Singapore’s former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has paid tribute to Malaysia’s fifth Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, who passed away on April 14.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, Singapore’s former Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong shared that he had known Pak Lah even before both became heads of government, calling him a leader who “served his country with great dedication” and worked hard to improve the lives of Malaysians.
We did much together to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between Singapore and Malaysia,” he wrote, noting that they launched the first ever Leaders’ Retreat in Langkawi in 2007 — a tradition that continues till today.
Lee also remembered the late leader as someone with whom he shared “many warm conversations” over the years.
Pak Lah’s passing will be mourned by many,” he said, extending his condolences to Pak Lah’s family and the people of Malaysia.
He included a photo of the two leaders shaking hands during a meeting in Singapore in 2007.
Former Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, affectionately known as “Pak Lah,” passed away on April 14, 2025, at the age of 85.
He died at 7:10pm at the National Heart Institute (IJN) in Kuala Lumpur due to heart disease, after being admitted for breathing difficulties.
