Yesterday (Sept 30), Malaysians across the country were officially able to pump RON95 petrol which only cost RM1.99 per litre under the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) subsidy scheme.
At present, every eligible person is only allowed to pump a maximum of 300 litres monthly at the subsidised price. However, some parties have expressed dissatisfaction over the quota and are calling for it to be increased.
‘Increase Budi95 quota to 800L’
One of them was Gerakan, with Selangor chief Henry Teoh urging the government to increase the present quota to 800 litres as 300 litres wasn’t enough and also to enable more Malaysians to enjoy the subsidy.

“For example, a Klang resident who commutes daily to Kuala Lumpur for work would likely need to refuel four times within three weeks, and will use up 300 liters before the month ends.
“For the remaining days of the month, commuters would not be able to enjoy the subsidy. Yet, the government still holds press conferences to claim that it has managed to save RM4 billion for national coffers.
“These “savings” aren’t really one as it is paid for by a majority of the B40 income group. As such, the government must raise the quota to 800 litres in order to truly balance the economic burden of low-income families,” he said as quoted by Oriental Daily.

Warns of losing the next GE
Teoh added that raising the quota to 800 litres was to let the broader B40 community to benefit while reiterating it will not benefit foreigners who do not possess a MyKad.
He also warned that the current government risks losing power in the next general election (GE) if it doesn’t consider the proposal to increase fuel quota.
“We welcome the government to implement this proposal. But if it does not adopt the 800-liter fuel subsidy policy, then it may have to hand over power to Gerakan in the next GE.”
