A group of Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s supporters began gathering at the Palace of Justice in Putrajaya as early as 6am today, with some travelling hundreds of kilometres to show their support for the former prime minister.
Those present included members of Wanita UMNO from several states, including Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Pahang, Kedah, and Perak.
“Still loyal supporters from all over”
One supporter, Radiah Rashid, 67, said she left her home in Rawang, Selangor, in the early morning and arrived at the Palace of Justice at around 6am.
She said supporters had come from various parts of the country, including Pekan in Pahang, Sik in Kedah, and Kuala Kangsar in Perak, in addition to Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
Radiah added that many supporters were hopeful Najib would be freed from the charges, noting that he has been undergoing court proceedings for about seven years.
Early morning journey to show support
Reported by Harian Metro, another supporter, Alias Samat, 69, said he arrived in Putrajaya at around 6am after driving from Kuala Selangor.
He said he left home at about 5am and reached the Palace of Justice roughly an hour later.
Alias, who is a retiree, said that as it was Friday, he hoped the court’s decision would be in Najib’s favour and that the former prime minister would be cleared of the allegations.
About 50 supporters seen at the grounds
A Harian Metro observation found that around 50 Najib supporters were already present outside the Palace of Justice by early morning.
Several buses believed to be carrying more supporters were also expected to arrive later in the day.
Supporters were seen chanting slogans such as “Hidup Bossku” and “Bebas Bossku” as a show of support.
Earlier reports said Najib arrived at the Palace of Justice at about 8.25am in a silver Proton X70 sports utility vehicle.
Today’s proceedings involve the 1Malaysia Development Berhad scandal, which was linked to Najib’s fall from office as prime minister.
The case is being decided by the Kuala Lumpur High Court, which is sitting at the Palace of Justice.
