Worried of her boyfriend’s wrath if he were to discover that she lost tons of money while gambling, a foreign woman resorted to concocting a fake story about how she was robbed.
However, all the evidence ultimately worked against her and she now faces hefty penalties for lying to police, reported Harian Metro.
Claimed she was robbed by 2 women
According to a statement by Bentong district police chief Superintendent Zaiham Mohd Kahar, he said the Bentong District Police Headquarters (IPD) received a report from the woman at about 10.30pm yesterday (Jan 7).
In the report, the woman said she was robbed of RM10,000 in cash by two foreign women in front of an elevator at a hotel in Genting Highlands at 5.30pm.
Lied out of fear
However, when police went to review CCTV footage of the alleged robbery, they discovered that it never occurred at all.
Instead, their investigations found that the woman had actually lost the RM10,000 while gambling at the casino.
She later admitted to her actions and said she did so out of fear for her boyfriend’s scolding if he were to find out.
The woman also failed to produce any identification documents during the investigation.
Faces jail time & fines
A police report was later lodged against the woman and she’s now being probed under Section 182 of the Penal Code for providing false information to a public servant, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 for not possessing a valid passport to enter and stay in Malaysia.
For the fake police report, she faces imprisonment of up to six months, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both.
As for the lack of documentation, she faces a fine not exceeding RM10,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
