When caught by the officers, the woman tried to worm her way out by claiming she was a Malaysian. But when asked to sing the first stanza of ‘Negaraku’, not a single word came out of her.

Realising that she had exposed herself, the woman went into a meltdown and cried while begging the officers to let her go.

Many tried to evade arrest

The Chinese daily also reported that several illegal workers attempted to flee the scene, including a man who jumped out of a window from the first floor but was eventually caught.

Some also tried hiding inside bathrooms, turning off the lights inside their units, or escaping via emergency stairways to avoid inspection.

During the operation, officers also discovered a rented unit that had been turned into an area for the illegal workers to use drugs and was managed by two Indonesian women and a Malaysian man.

The man attempted to destroy what was believed to be drugs when he saw the officers but was arrested on the spot.

95 illegal immigrants nabbed

Selangor Immigration Department Deputy Director-General (Operations) Dato’ Lokman Effendi bin Ramli said that a total of 285 foreigners were inspected during the operation at Pangsapuri Pendamar B, Port Klang.

Out of this figure, 95 were arrested for suspected offenses under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
