Foreign Student Says She “Hates Studying In M’sia” As She’s Unable To Work Here

Say what?
Many international students often flock to Malaysia to further their studies thanks to its relatively low costs and high standards.

However, some have also aired grouses concerning their time as an international student in the country, like how one student from Africa did.

‘Hate studying here cause I can’t work’

In a TikTok video posted six days ago, it showed an interviewer asking several international students what they liked and hated about studying in Malaysia.

When it came to what they cherished the most, a majority of the students said they loved how affordable the cost of living was and praised Malaysia’s strong educational standards.

But of course, some had less-than-desirable things to comment, with one female student saying she “hated” studying in Malaysia as she’s not allowed to find a part-time job while pursuing her studies.

Another student said his biggest gripe as a foreign student in the country was how unbearably hot the weather was.

Under current guidelines, international students are only allowed to work during semester breaks or long holidays between academic terms, where it must exceed seven days. They are also only allowed to work maximum 20 hours weekly.

‘You here to work or study?’

Naturally, the foreign student’s comment about “hating” her time as a student in Malaysia caused a stir among netizens, who left their thoughts regarding it.

One questioned her real intention in coming over to Malaysia as she portrayed herself as one looking for employment rather than pursuing her studies.

Another pointed out that it was inaccurate to claim that international students cannot work part-time in Malaysia as they can do so provided they have written permission from the university and Immigration Department.

Meanwhile, some expressed bewilderment over African students complaining about the weather when their home country is equally as humid as Malaysia.
