SUNGAI PETANI – More than 20 households in the Kuala Muda village received much-needed supplies after they hung a white flag outside their homes – a national sign that they are in desperate need of help.

Fishermen living in the village have been struggling to make ends meet for the past six weeks as buyers from nearby districts were prohibited from entering the area during the current lockdown, thus cutting off their sole source of income.

Thankfully, the leader of Sungai Petani’s Volunteer Fire Department, Leong, came to their rescue after hearing of their situation and immediately arranged to have the supplies delivered in the afternoon.
According to Leong, a generous man donated 50 sets of food packs, which included rice, sugar, cooking oil, flour, and tea.
“He [the donor] sent the supplies and told us that he hopes it will be given to any family that needs it.”

According to a resident named Norhanani, she said she informed the neighbourhood about the White Flag movement after she saw news about it on Facebook and convinced her neighbours to plant white flags at their homes.
“We never thought that we would recieve aid a few hours after the flags were raised,” she said.
Norhanani also mentioned that the volunteer team usually weren’t active around the area but was still glad that they sent help irregardless of racial differences.
