Singaporean livestream personality Wang Lei, also known as “Fish Selling Bro,” has come forward to defend singer Namewee, who was recently linked to a murder case.
‘Even if Namewee took drugs, I’ll still support him’
A clip from Wang Lei’s livestream has been circulating, showing him speaking at length about Namewee.
He said that even if Namewee had taken drugs, he would not cut ties with him.
He asked viewers, “Do you not have any friends who took drugs? I have many. If he was not a public figure, nobody would even bother about whether he took drugs or not.”
Wang Lei claimed that Namewee’s behaviour was receiving extra attention simply because he is a celebrity.
Reported by Reddot, he also alleged that some media outlets were exaggerating the case for views, and went as far as saying that a reporter’s family member falling ill was “karma.”
‘He wouldn’t commit murder’
Wang Lei stated that he does not believe Namewee would commit murder when his career is doing well.
“He has not been convicted, but the media and haters are already rushing to attack him. Even people around him are trying to take advantage of the situation. Who has never made mistakes?” he said.
Speaking from a friend’s perspective, Wang Lei said that if the case involved only drug use, he would choose to forgive Namewee and support him in moving forward.
“I will not comment on the murder allegation. But if he needs help, I will support him,” he added.
