Fuel prices have been soaring to unprecedented levels following relentless attacks on Iran by the US and Israel, which has since led to the Strait of Hormuz closing indefinitely.
As such, the entire world is feeling the biting effects of the war, with many Southeast Asian countries facing a fuel shortage. However, Malaysia is currently quite sheltered from the storm thanks to the BUDI95 scheme.
‘I’m so jealous!’
The BUDI95 scheme, which allows Malaysians to enjoy subsidised RON95 fuel at RM1.99 per litre, has caught the attention of many, including a Filipino woman who praised it in a Threads post.

In the post, she wrote that she went to refuel her car and that her husband only paid RM100 when the display showed that it was actually RM164.32.
After her husband explained to her that the Malaysian government had subsidised RM64.32, she was left impressed by how much Malaysians were able to save thanks to the BUDI95 scheme.
“Meanwhile, in the Philippines, petrol is almost around PHP100 per liter (about RM6.80/L).
Whatever side you’re on politically, credit where it’s due. Malaysians, your government is doing something right here and I’m very very jealous,” she wrote.

Reactions
In the comment section, Malaysians flocked to the comment section to express pride and gratefulness over the RON95 subsidy given by the government.
They also slammed those who constantly nitpicked on the government instead of being thankful for the subsidy.

Despite the subsidy, the government had previously warned that BUDI95 supplies are expected to last until May only:
