Fewer SPM Candidates Fail BM And Sejarah Compared To Previous Year

BM failure rates dropping by 0.1% and History by 2% compared to 2022.
Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh announced that the failure rates for Bahasa Malaysia (BM) and History in the 2023 Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) exams have improved compared to the previous year.

According to The Star, in 2023, 2.5% of students failed BM, while 5.6% failed History. This marks a slight improvement, with BM failure rates dropping by 0.1% and History by 2% compared to 2022.

The average grades for both subjects also showed improvement, with BM improving from 3.95 in 2022 to 3.86 in 2023, and History improving from 4.65 to 4.63.

Wong addressed a viral post on X (formerly known as Twitter) that claimed over 23,000 students had failed the History and BM exams, stating that the Education Ministry values feedback and is committed to providing comprehensive support materials through the Digital Educational Learning Initiative Malaysia (Delima).

He also noted that teachers will have access to new support materials as they are developed.

Last year, 395,870 students took the national examination.
