Excuses evolve, but the payment still doesn’t arrive.

These days, transferring money is as easy as grabbing your phone and tapping a few buttons.

But when it comes to paying back debt, some people still somehow make it feel like climbing Mount Everest.

Recently, one Malaysian shared his personal frustration after trying to collect money owed to him, only to be met with a surprising string of bizarre and unnecessary excuses.

From “on the way back kampung” to “too late already”

In his social media post, he listed the kinds of responses he often gets, and honestly, they sound more like punchlines than valid reasons.

Why is it that when you ask someone to transfer money or pay you back, they’ll say stuff like ‘Just got home from work, I’ll do it later’ or ‘On the way back to kampung, I’ll send it after’?

Then there’s the classic ‘Too late already, I’ll transfer tomorrow’ or ‘Gonna go eat first, I’ll send it later.’ Bro, by the time you typed all that, you could’ve done the transfer already,” he wrote.

Procrastination… or preference?

This whole experience got him thinking—are people really too busy, or are they just putting it off on purpose?

Is this just a way to stall, or are there actually people who can only transfer money when they’re doing absolutely nothing else?” he added.

His post quickly caught the attention of fellow Malaysians, many of whom had their own theories and experiences to share.

Netizens weigh in

Some were quick to defend the delay, saying that transferring money isn’t something you want to rush, especially when one small mistake could cost you.

Maybe they just want to be calm and focused when doing it. You’re the one too impatient,” one person commented.

“You can’t do it in a rush what if you key in the wrong details? One wrong move and your money’s gone,” another added.

Blame it on the line?

Others brought up a practical point: unstable internet.

“WhatsApp might still work, but online banking needs a stable connection. Sometimes it’s not about being lazy, the line just sucks,” one user said.

Festive season = chaos?

Some also noted that with Raya just around the corner, people are handling all sorts of transactions, think tailoring fees, cookie orders, and duit raya prep. It’s easy to see how one or two payments might fall through the cracks.

“It’s a hectic time. So many payments to make, everything’s happening at once. Can’t blame people for needing a breather before they sort it all out.”

But let’s be honest…

Still, not everyone bought into the excuses. A few were more straightforward, saying it all boils down to whether the person actually has the money.

“Let’s be real. Some people just don’t have the money, and they forget to pay. If you want to do something, you’ll find a way. If not, you’ll find an excuse,” one user said bluntly.

Whether it’s bad timing, bad internet, or bad budgeting, one thing’s clear, when it comes to paying back money, some Malaysians have turned delay tactics into an art form.
