A single mother was found dead at her home in Sungai Dua, Penang, yesterday (Feb 4), where a slash wound was found on her neck.
Following the incident, her family are struggling to come to terms with her death and wondering what could have caused the brutal murder.
Thought victim had passed out
Speaking to MalaysiaGazette, the victim’s brother-in-law, who wished to remain anonymous, said the family received a call from a neighbour at around 1.30pm, who told them that she got no response from the victim despite the front door being wide open.
“The neighbour told us that her child was supposed to be picked up by my sister-in-law after school, but she didn’t turn up and her calls went unanswered.
“We tried contacting the victim but there was no response, so my wife asked her brother to go to the house to check on her,” he said.
The victim’s brother-in-law added that when they reached the scene, they thought the victim had fainted as she had previously complained of dizziness and fainted once at home before.
We thought this time would be the same, but it turned out to be something else entirely,” he said.
The victim’s brother-in-law also revealed that the victim’s last call to her family was at 9am that day, where she asked her father what he wanted to eat as she usually cooked and delivered meals to him at his home in Bukit Mertajam.
2 suspects arrested
Meanwhile, Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail said two suspects, who are both in their 40s and acquaintances of the victim, were nabbed several hours after the murder.
They have since been remanded to aid ongoing investigations while police wait for the post-mortem results.
