The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) in Petaling Jaya are investigating a viral TikTok video that allegedly promotes an illegal basikal lajak (modified bicycle) race.
In a statement dated May 22, 2025, PJ District Police Chief ACP Shahrulnizam bin Ja’afar said authorities spotted the 29-second video circulating on TikTok around 4.30pm on Thursday.
The footage reportedly shows a group of teens performing dangerous stunts on modified bicycles along public roads.
It also advertises a basikal lajak race supposedly taking place in Damansara Damai, PJ, on May 24.
Police: This is a serious offence
Following the clip, police have opened an investigation under Section 81 of the Road Transport Act 1987, which prohibits unauthorised street racing involving any vehicle.
Authorities emphasised that such races pose a risk to public safety and will not be taken lightly.
