While many Malaysians have spoken up about rising financial pressures and economic challenges, it’s worth taking a step back to appreciate the perks of living here — because not everyone has it this good.
That was the case for a woman named Sofi, who left Indonesia and has been living in Malaysia since 2016.
In a video shared on TikTok, she revealed that she now works at a tech company — and says the move was well worth it.
A Strategic Move for Her Future
Like many, Sofi initially applied for jobs through platforms like LinkedIn and Jobstreet.
But for her current job, she decided to go directly to the company’s website to apply — and it paid off.
While being far from family wasn’t easy, Sofi was driven by the promise of a brighter future and a better work environment. Over the years, she’s been able to grow her career and secure a more stable life in Malaysia.

EPF Contributions Sweeten the Deal
One major perk she appreciates about working in Malaysia is the 12–13% employer contribution to the Employees Provident Fund (EPF), known locally as KWSP. Sofi said this benefit has helped her build up her savings for the future.
After years of working and saving, Sofi revealed she was able to purchase a car in Malaysia for around 40 million rupiah — which is approximately RM10,440.
Still, she prefers to commute using public transport like the LRT during workdays, saying it’s much more convenient for getting around the city.
Sofi’s story reflects a growing trend of skilled individuals choosing to settle in Malaysia not just for career growth, but for its financial security, accessible transport, and quality of life.
