The emergency lane is specifically designed and allocated only for emergency vehicles such as ambulances and fire trucks so that responders can reach their destination in a timely manner.
Unfortunately, some drivers misuse it to skip out on traffic congestions, which is not only illegal but also shaves off precious time needed by responders to attend to emergencies.
Previously fought over OKU parking spots
In an anonymous confession shared on XUAN’s Facebook page, the OP wrote that when she first met her boyfriend, she noticed that he would often park at OKU parking spots and this would lead to arguments.
Her boyfriend tried justifying his behaviour by arguing that if he didn’t park there, someone else would do it instead.
We gave each other the cold shoulder for a week over that. I only forgave him when he said he wouldn’t do it again. But I don’t know whether he still does it when he’s alone.
“He’s not an uneducated person. In fact, he’s a university graduate and drives a Volvo. Honestly, the OKU parking incident really embarrassed me,” she wrote.
New year, new problem
The OP continued by recounting that during Chinese New Year this year, she was in the car with her boyfriend while traveling back to KL and they got caught in a traffic jam at Gopeng.
Wanting to skip the congestion, her boyfriend proceeded to drive on the emergency lane despite her constant reminders not to do so.
“I told him that using the emergency lane could cost someone’s life but he wouldn’t listen. He claimed that since everyone else was using it, he’d be an idiot not to do the same.
“He added that if he got caught, he’d just say he didn’t know it was an emergency lane.”
Called relationship off
Disheartened by her boyfriend’s selfish behaviour, the OP spent all night thinking things over and decided it would be best to break up with him.
“I don’t want to spend my future with someone who drives on the emergency lane and endangers another person’s life.
“Although he says that I’m petty and acting self-righteous, what he doesn’t know is that I actually lost a friend due to someone misusing the emergency lane.”
