A wild elephant attacked a car on the East-West Highway in Gerik, Perak, yesterday, leaving the vehicle’s headlights damaged.
The passengers, all women, were unharmed after chanting prayers during the terrifying ordeal.
Reversing the car while being chased
The car owner, Lyin Aziz, shared a one-minute video of the encounter on TikTok, showing how they were attacked and chased by the elephant.
In the video, the car is seen slowing down as it approaches two elephants by the roadside. Before they even get close, one of the elephants notices them and starts chasing them.

They begin reversing the car, but the elephant catches up and pushes the vehicle with its trunk. They manage to drive away after the elephant steps aside, seemingly observing them.
She later revealed that their headlamp was damaged and that the elephant only became aggressive after the car in front of them honked, triggering the attack on her vehicle, which was following behind.
“Thank God for protecting us.”
In the caption, Aziz provided more context and expressed her gratitude to God for protecting her.
A frightening morning! On our way back to Kedah, we were suddenly attacked by a wild elephant in Gerik. The car was full of women, and everyone was panicked. We never expected something like this.”
“Thank God for protecting us. It reminded me of Prophet Sulaiman’s prayers. Truly, God has shielded us. What matters most is our safety, not the damaged headlights.” Aziz wrote.

She added that she took over driving after passing through Titiwangsa, as her friends were too shaken to continue. “Thank God, everything ended safely,” she wrote.
Netizens’ reaction
The incident sparked mixed reactions online, with some sympathizing and others criticizing the driver’s actions.
“Since people often stop and feed the elephants there, they’ve started disturbing people… Maybe it’s already used to eating bread.”

“If there are no cars coming from the opposite direction, drive to the far right. Otherwise, stop from a distance… If you get too close, the elephant might think you are attacking it.”

“If you see it from afar, just stop. No need to act reckless on the road… We are in its territory, so we should respect it… Sorry, just wanted to point that out.”
