However, for some individuals, that dream remains out of reach.
Whether due to financial struggles or a lack of support, many elderly people continue to work tirelessly well into their golden years.
One such story recently touched the hearts of Malaysians, reminding us of the resilience and dedication it takes to keep going despite life’s challenges.
In a video shared by Amirul Amer, an elderly woman was seen entertaining passersby at Uptown Danau Kota, Kuala Lumpur, dressed in a bright red rabbit costume.
Initially, the video showed her taking a break, sitting on a chair along the sidewalk with the costume’s headpiece removed, likely to cool off after hours of work.
Despite her visible exhaustion, she quickly resumed her task, putting the costume back on and sitting upright as people passed by.
Her determination left Amirul deeply moved, prompting him to share her story. “May she always have steady income and remain grateful,” he wrote in his post.
“…if that were my own mother.”
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Amirul, who recorded the video, shared his initial thoughts:
“When I first saw her, I felt sad. I imagined how I would feel if that were my own mother. But I don’t know if she has children or not,” he said.
Amirul also noted that the elderly woman interacted with him and others during her time at the spot.
“She did interact with me and other people as well. Thankfully, some were kind enough to give her donations. Our community has many generous people willing to share their blessings,” he shared.
However, he couldn’t help but feel sympathy for her.
“It’s heartbreaking to see someone her age working when she should be at home, resting.”
When asked if he had a message to share about this incident, Amirul responded passionately.
“If we still have parents, take care of them. Don’t let them struggle to earn a living at such an age. A mother and father can care for 10 children, but 10 children might not be able to care for one parent. Treasure and care for them while you still can,” he said, urging others to reflect on their responsibilities toward the elderly.
