In a recent social media post, a netizen shared how a routine queue at the cashier turned into a moment that restored her faith in humanity.
Elderly man struggles to pay, gets scolded instead
According to the post, the incident happened when an elderly man attempted to pay for his items at the counter.
However, after three failed attempts using his card, he appeared increasingly anxious, seemingly not having enough money, and eventually took out his phone to call his son for help.
After explaining the situation, the elderly man was reportedly scolded instead of receiving support.
He slowly explained that he didn’t buy much, just some food, but his son replied, ‘If you don’t have money, then don’t buy!’”
The response left the elderly man visibly distressed as he stood there, unsure of what to do next.
Netizen steps in to help
Unable to bear the situation, the netizen decided to step forward.
She handed her card to the cashier and paid for the elderly man’s items, which included a pack of crackers, Milo, condensed milk, and a packet of salt.
The elderly man was deeply grateful and repeatedly thanked her. He even asked for her address, hoping to repay her in the future.
But she declined, telling him, “No need, I’ll treat you.”
Before leaving, she also slipped some cash into his pocket and reminded him to take care of himself.
A kindness remembered and returned
The experience brought back a childhood memory for the netizen, who recalled how a stranger once helped her family during a difficult time.
She shared that when she was young, her caretaker had taken her to a grocery store to buy rice, but they did not have enough money.
“At that moment, a kind stranger stepped in, paid for the rice, and even bought me a candy.
“I still remembers that person’s face to this day.”
