EcoWorld Development Group Bhd announced on Tuesday (25 Feb) that it has signed agreements to sell land for RM266.1 million and to build a data center on another plot of land, which will be leased to Pearl Computing Malaysia Sdn Bhd, an affiliate of Google.

In a Bursa Malaysia filing on Tuesday, Paragon Pinnacle Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of EcoWorld, agreed to sell 58.187 acres of industrial land in Eco Business Park V to Pearl Computing.

Meanwhile, in a separate filing, EcoWorld stated that its other subsidiary, Quantum Alpha Sdn Bhd (QASB), has signed an agreement with Pearl Computing to develop and lease data centers on 92.44 acres within the same park.

The project is scheduled for completion in 2027, EcoWorld said.

EcoWorld shares data centre & recurring income strategy

At EcoWorld’s Data Center & Recurring Income Strategy event held at Zepp KL today, EcoWorld President & CEO Dato’ Chang Khim Wah shared the group’s five revenue pillars, namely Eco Townships, Eco Rise, Eco Hubs, Eco Biz Park, and the newly launched Quantum.

He also highlighted that Quantum has secured over RM1.59 billion in land sales within 12 months, with clients such as Microsoft, Princeton Digital Group, and Pearl Computing.

First Build & Lease Data Center launched

Additionally, EcoWorld has developed its first Build & Lease Data Center on 92 acres at EBP V, Selangor, which is expected to generate RM4.8 billion in rental income over 20 years on a triple net lease basis.

Chang emphasized EcoWorld’s role in the Build & Lease Data Center sector, stating that the company primarily assists clients in obtaining necessary approvals and providing infrastructure support.

Right now, we are only selling land, generating recurring income, and facilitating data centre development. But we are not yet in the data centre business itself,” Chang remarked.

Liew: M’sia remains stable and committed in AI transformation

A dialogue session was also held at the event with Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Liew Chin Tong, discussing Malaysia’s growing appeal to foreign investors, particularly in digital infrastructure.

Liew emphasized that while Malaysia has been successful in attracting data center investments, the next step is to assist that local companies like EcoWorld play a more significant role in the technology ecosystem.

Despite this positive outlook, Liew noted concerns within the business community regarding geopolitical uncertainties and global economic shifts.

However, he reassured investors that Malaysia remains stable and is committed to fostering a digital economy.

He also stressed that partnerships with companies like Google and Microsoft help alleviate concerns and reinforce Malaysia’s reputation as a premier investment hub.

Challenges of AI

Acknowledging the rapid pace of technological change, Liew pointed out that artificial intelligence (AI) and digital transformation will reshape industries faster than ever before.

He stressed the need for Malaysia to position itself as a key player in this transformation rather than remain a passive participant.

EcoWorld CEO Dato’ Chang Khim Wah acknowledged the government’s role in creating a favorable investment climate.

He noted that EcoWorld has benefited from Malaysia’s pro-business policies, which have helped the company grow its industrial sales significantly in just a few years.
