GEORGETOWN – A fire broke out at the Kek Lok Si Temple, the largest Buddhist temple in Malaysia, at around 2 am today.

According to The Star, the fire rescue team had received a distress call at 2:56 am.

Teams from the Paya Terubong and Jalan Perak fire stations were then immediately deployed to the scene.
Operations officer Muhamad Norhisyam Ibrahim said when they arrived, they found one of the temples at the hill had been gutted.

About 70% of it was damaged.”
Several videos of the fire were also shared on social media by netizens.
