If you’ve ever worried whether your kid is eating right or getting enough nutrients, then this event might just be for you.
The Dumex Dugro® Iron Strong event kicked off on 20 August at IOI City Mall, and it’s already making waves among parents.
From now until 24 August, the event is running at the LG West Wing, and it’s all about one thing: helping parents understand just how important iron is for their child’s growth and brain development.

What’s the Big Deal About Iron?
Let’s start with the “why.”
Not many parents realise this, but 1 in 3 kids in Malaysia are at risk of anemia, and iron deficiency is the most common cause. The tricky part is that it often shows no symptoms, but it can have serious long-term effects.
Research shows that untreated iron deficiency anemia can lower a child’s IQ by up to 13 percent. That’s a big deal, especially during those years when their brains are growing the fastest.
So Dumex Dugro® created this event not just to raise awareness, but to give parents a way to take action early, before it becomes a bigger issue.
So What’s Going On at the Event?

The event officially kicked off on 20 August and was officiated by YB Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development which really showed how seriously the issue of child nutrition is being taken at a national level.

From there, it was a great mix of learning, exploring, and fun. Whether you’re a parent looking to better understand your child’s nutrition or a kid excited about games and prizes, there was something for everyone.
Here’s what stood out.
The Wall of Iron Strong
One of the most meaningful parts of the event is the Wall of Iron Strong, which highlights five incredible individuals who grew up with Dumex Dugro® and are now excelling in their respective fields.
Their stories are more than just impressive, they show how strong nutritional foundations in childhood can help shape future leaders, creators, and changemakers.
Here’s who you’ll meet at the wall:
- Ziyad Zolkefli, Malaysia’s Paralympic shot put champion, made history with a gold medal at Rio 2016, where he also set a new world record. Although he delivered another world record-breaking throw of 17.94m at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, it was unfortunately not recognised due to a technical disqualification. He later returned to the podium with a silver medal in Paris 2024, proving his resilience and strength as a national icon.

- Mekyun, a lifestyle content creator known for spreading positivity, unity, and good vibes through her cheerful and heartwarming content.

- Dr. Mahaletchumy Arujanan, a respected biotechnologist and science communicator, who’s passionate about empowering women and youth, while balancing life as a dedicated mother.

- Dion Das, also known as Little Bornean Birdie, is a young and passionate traditional dancer who began learning the Iban Ngajat dance from his father at age 6 and later won two gold medals at a world championship in California.

- Fakhirah Khairuddin, a nanotechnology engineer who once taught robotics at Tesla, and earned her Master’s in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California.

Games and Activities for the Kids
After soaking up some inspiration, we checked out the game zone.
The activities were playful and colourful, but all tied back to one important message: how iron helps kids grow strong and smart.
Through these fun and interactive games, your children get to learn how this often-overlooked nutrient plays a big role in their everyday development from energy levels to learning and focus.
