A man suspected of drunk driving was stopped by members of the public after a minor crash in Johor Bahru, leading to a heated altercation and a viral moment captured on video.
The driver, who was found to have alcohol levels above the legal limit, is now under investigation.
Driver confronted by civilians
In a video of the incident which was shared on social media, it showed a Mercedes driver being confronted by civilians in Taman Tasek for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
In an official statement released yesterday (May 28), Johor Bahru Selatan police chief ACP Raub Selamat confirmed police were aware of the viral footage and launched an investigation.
According to the statement, the incident occurred around 10.25pm on May 25, where a Mercedes and a Perodua Alza collided into each other at KM12 of Lebuhraya Iskandar.

The video also showed that both occupants of the Alza, including a child, were injured—reportedly due to the accident.
Mercedes driver tries to flee
The 37-year-old Mercedes driver reportedly did not stop after the crash, prompting the Alza driver to pursue him until KM6.5 of Jalan Johor Bahru-Air Hitam.
Both vehicles eventually pulled over, leading to a verbal confrontation between the drivers.
Traffic police later arrived at the scene and took the Mercedes driver to the station, where a breathalyser test confirmed that his blood alcohol content had exceeded the legal limit.
Police investigation ongoing
Police said the suspect had no prior criminal record, and the case is being investigated under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving with a blood alcohol concentration above the legal threshold, and Regulation 6(1) LN166/59 for dangerous overtaking or unsafe change of direction.
