The Road Transport Department (JPJ) has reminded Malaysians to ensure their driving licences remain active if they want to continue receiving the targeted RON95 fuel subsidy under the BUDI MADANI programme.
In a media statement issued on March 26, JPJ stressed that licence status plays a key role in determining eligibility for the subsidy.
Licence must not expire beyond 36 months

According to JPJ, a Malaysian Driving Licence (LMM) is still considered active as long as it has not expired for more than 36 months from its last renewal date.
During this period, licence holders can still:
- Qualify for the BUDI95 subsidy
- Renew their licence directly without needing to retake any tests
No longer eligible if expired over 3 years
However, JPJ said drivers whose licences have expired for more than 36 months will no longer be eligible for the subsidy.
They will also:
- Be required to retake the driving competency test
- Not be allowed to renew their licence directly
JPJ urges timely renewals

JPJ urged all drivers to renew their licences within the stipulated timeframe to avoid their licences becoming inactive.
This is important not only for legal driving purposes, but also to ensure continued eligibility for the BUDI95 subsidy.
The department added that all drivers must ensure their licences are valid before operating any motor vehicle.
