A Singapore-registered Lexus SUV driver who drove off from a Johor petrol station without paying a RM139.01 fuel bill has claimed the incident was due to a “miscommunication”.
The incident took place around 9pm on Jan 21 at a Caltex station along the Skudai Highway rest area, Johor.
A staff member said the man driving the Lexus SUV requested a full tank of RON97 petrol. Payment wasn’t collected in advance.

While the car was being refuelled, a woman who was with the driver entered the convenience store to shop.
Once she returned to the vehicle, the driver allegedly drove off without settling the bill.
Staff tried to stop them but failed
The station employee added that they only realised the bill was unpaid after the SUV had left. Despite efforts to chase after the vehicle, it was too late.
Nearby drivers even honked to alert them, but they didn’t stop,” the staff recalled.
The SUV had pumped about 45 litres of RON97 petrol, amounting to RM139.01.
The station said that if the bill wasn’t paid, the cost would likely fall on the outlet and the staff who handled the refuelling. A salary deduction could also be imposed.
They appealed online for the driver to return and settle the amount, adding that a police report would be lodged if no action was taken within 48 hours.
Family member says it was a mix-up
Shortly after the appeal went viral, a Facebook user claiming to be the couple’s child responded publicly.
They explained that the incident happened due to a “miscommunication between my mum and dad regarding the payment”.

According to the comment, the family quickly contacted the petrol station to resolve the issue, and the bill has since been paid.
Another user who claimed to know the driver personally said it was a “moment of carelessness”, not an intentional act.
