Yesterday, we reported about how a young woman was tragically killed after getting run over and dragged for 10 metres by a Rapid KL van at Jalan Kuchai Maju in Kuchai Lama last Sunday (Sept 14).
Following the tragedy, Rapid KL has since released an official statement regarding the fate of the driver who was behind the wheel of the van when the accident occurred.
Rapid KL van driver suspended
In its statement, Rapid KL said the van was on its Taman OUG–Kuchai Lama route when it struck the 26-year-old victim.
Given the severity of the situation, Rapid KL added the driver involved has since been suspended from the job with immediate effect while investigations are ongoing.
It also extended its condolences to the family of the victim and promised to fully cooperate with the authorities.
The case is currently being probed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless driving causing death.
What happened
According to the victim’s father, he claimed the Rapid KL van driver didn’t stop after hitting his daughter and continued to drive on, dragging her for 10 metres in the process.
He added that he will be demanding a formal explanation from Rapid KL and vowed not to forgive the driver for killing his daughter.
The family is also appealing to the public to provide dashcam and CCTV footage of the incident if they have any.
