Dog Seen Dragged Behind Car In Penang, Owner Claims He Was Unaware Of It

The dog currently remains in a critical condition.
Dogs are known for their incredible display of loyalty and love towards their owners. Sadly, not all owners treasure these traits and instead resort to cruelty.

Malaysians were recently left outraged after a dog was seen being dragged behind a car in Penang, resulting in the animal sustaining grievous injuries.

In a Facebook post shared by an animal rescue team named Penang Hope of Strays yesterday, it featured a screenshot of a video showing a dog being tied to the back of a red Saga and dragged by its leash in Seberang Prai.

Thankfully, the dog was rescued by a man named Richard who worked for the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and sent to a vet clinic to treat its injuries.

A police report was also lodged at the Machang Bubok police station.

Unfortunately, the dog didn’t emerge unscathed from the incident, where its front and hind paws were marked with open, festering wounds.

Dog owner gives his side of the story

In a follow-up post, Penang Hope of Strays wrote that the dog owner later turned up at a police station at Bukit Mertajam and recounted his side of the incident.

According to the owner, the dog was raised by his family and acknowledged that the car belonged to him.

However, he claimed that he was unaware that his cousin had tied the dog to the back of the car and dragged it for about 0.7km until a passerby alerted him about it.

The owner also claimed that when his cousin alighted from the car, he was shocked to see the dog’s injuries and quickly untied it before bringing it back home and purchasing medication from the pharmacy.

He (the dog owner) expressed deep regret over the incident and said his family, especially his cousin, loved the dog very much and hopes to get it back.

“However, the dog is currently still not out of danger and the vet said an X-ray can only be done once the painkillers does its work.

“As to whether the dog will be returned to the owner, SPCA will have the final say on it and will not release the dog unless someone is capable of caring for it,” the caption read.

We hope the dog makes a speedy recovery and that the authorities will take action against those responsible for this act of cruelty.
