The Malaysian Society for Animal Welfare (SAFM) has publicly condemned a shocking act of animal cruelty that took place on 22 December 2024 in Ladang Malaya, Selama, Perak.

The incident, which has outraged animal lovers across the nation, involved a dog named Kutty being shot with an arrow by a worker, reportedly because the animal had wandered into another lane.

Tragically, Kutty succumbed to severe injuries, sparking widespread calls for justice.

This heart-wrenching incident not only highlights the senseless cruelty faced by animals but also underscores the violation of Malaysia’s Animal Welfare Act 2015.

Through their Instagram post, SAFM has called on witnesses to come forward with any information that could aid the investigation, emphasising the importance of holding the perpetrator accountable.

Citizens are encouraged to lodge official reports at the nearest police station and file complaints with the Department of Veterinary Services (DVS) to initiate formal investigations.

SAFM reminded the public that witness testimonies play a critical role in ensuring justice is served for animals like Kutty.

SAFM Calls for Stronger Enforcement

SAFM has urged authorities, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the DVS, to conduct thorough investigations and take decisive action against the offender.

The organisation also demands full enforcement of Section 30 of the Animal Welfare Act 2015, which stipulates severe penalties for animal cruelty offenders.

Under this law, guilty parties may face fines of up to RM100,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both.

Despite numerous campaigns raising awareness about animal welfare, cases like Kutty’s highlight ongoing gaps in enforcement.

“The lack of strong legal action often enables offenders to go unpunished,” SAFM stated, calling for tougher laws and more effective implementation.

A Call for Justice

SAFM has urged Malaysians to stand united in advocating for animal rights and ensuring perpetrators face the consequences of their actions.

SAFM urges society as a whole to unite in upholding animal rights and ensuring decisive action is taken against the perpetrators. Justice for Kutty is justice for all animals in need of protection.” they stated through the post.
