Local police have confirmed that the severely decomposed body that was found five days ago belonged to 15-year-old Yap Xin Yuan, who went missing on Dec 19.
This comes after her family and the whole of Malaysia waited with bated breath for the DNA test to formally confirm her identity for the past two days.

Police: Body belonged to Yap, BF to be remanded until Sunday
The news was confirmed by Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein bin Omar Khan, who said a comparison of the DNA report between Yap’s mother and the body confirmed that the corpse belonged to the teenager, reported China Press.
As for her 16-year-old boyfriend, who was arrested alongside his brother and father, is currently in police custody and will remain there until Jan 5.
However, police are not ruling out the possibility of extending his remand period as police continue to look into the motives for Yap’s death.
