A disabled elderly man was found drowned after he was believed to have fallen from his wheelchair into a roadside drain along Jalan Kampung Sungai Tiang Baroh in Selekoh today.
According to Sinar Harian, the Hutan Melintang Fire and Rescue Station received an emergency call regarding the incident involving the 77-year-old at 7.52am.
Wheelchair found near the drain
According to Perak Fire and Rescue Department Operations Division Acting Assistant Director Shazlean Mohd Hanafiah, the victim’s wheelchair was found near the edge of the drain, raising suspicion that he had fallen into it.

“A search operation was carried out and the victim was later found floating beneath the Sungai Tiang bridge, about two metres from the location where he was believed to have fallen.
“The operation commander was then instructed firefighters to retrieve the victim from the water,” he said in a statement.
Further examination by a medical team from the Health Ministry confirmed that the victim had died at the scene.
The victim’s body was subsequently handed over to the police for further action and investigation.
The operation came to a close at 9.20am after the situation was confirmed to be under control.
