BUTTERWORTH: Woken by his dog’s barks, a man named “Ak Ang” rushed out to see what was causing the commotion and instead saw a heartbreaking scene.
Desperate to fill his stomach but not wanting to be seen, a man in a white T-shirt quietly rummaged through a rubbish bin in search of leftovers in the dead of night before walking off with a handful of takeaway bags.
The incident, which was recorded and uploaded by Ang to his Facebook profile last Satuday (June 26), left netizens devastated over the harsh reality some faced in order to survive these tough times.
In his post, Ang said that the man was looking for leftovers that were still edible among multiple takeaways boxes before bringing it home.
“He could’ve been looking for meat on KFC chicken bones, French fries, or rice remnants.”
He added that a Chinese couple had also searched for food from the same rubbish bin in the past.
“They were afraid of looking for food during daytime, so they chose to do so in the middle of the night instead. It’s truly a great pity.”
“The man could have resorted to robbery, but all he wanted to do was to curb his hunger pangs.“
Moved by the man’s plight, Ang quickly grabbed some biscuits from his home and drove out to give it to him. Along the way, however, he realised that he had forgotten to take his IC and handphone with him. He also forgot to put on his undies too! Oops.
Fortunately, Ang did not cross paths with any police officers and was able to hand over the food to the man, saving him from another day of hunger.
Many netizens praised Ang for his kindness and thanked him for making society a better place.
Let’s all be united during this challenging time and be ready to lend a helping hand to our fellow Malaysians! #KitaJagaKita
