Malaysia’s Deputy Speaker, Alice Lau recently shared a tweet about her experience chairing the parliament’s 13th day session.
The tweet read, “I guess I need to start monitoring my blood pressure. I love my job, I love my job, I love my job 😅 Jia you 💪🏻,” accompanied by a photo of her at the session.

Many have encouraged and supported her in the comments section of her tweet, with some praised her dedication and hard work.

While some netizens praised her dedication and enthusiasm, others voiced their concerns about her performance as Deputy Speaker, calling for her to be stricter during parliamentary sessions.

One netizen left a comment on Deputy Speaker Alice Lau’s recent tweet, suggesting that she should wear an Apple watch and have her songkok (traditional Malay headgear) change color to indicate her rising blood pressure.

Alice Lau served as the Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat II under Speaker Johari Abdul since December 2022 and the Member of Parliament for Lanang since May 2013. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Tasmania and a Master of Laws from the University of Malaya. Prior to entering politics, Lau worked as a lawyer and was involved in various social and community activities.
