DBKL Orders 6 Eateries At Jalan Alor To Close Over Poor Hygiene

Cockroach and rat droppings were among the hygiene issues found.
A total of six food premises at Jalan Alor, Bukit Bintang were ordered to close after failing to meet cleanliness requirements during a special enforcement operation.

The operation was carried out by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), in collaboration with the Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM) yesterday (June 25).

45 food premises inspected

According to DBKL, the operation aimed to check the level of cleanliness, food safety, and compliance with licensing conditions at food premises in Jalan Alor.

A total of 45 food premises were inspected.

Following the checks, 74 notices and compounds were issued under several laws and by-laws, including those related to food establishment licensing, food control, trade and industry licensing, road and building regulations, as well as the Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024.

Cockroach and rat droppings found

Among the offences detected were failure to maintain cleanliness at the premises, failure to install or properly maintain oil traps, and the presence of cockroach and rat droppings in the kitchen area.

Other issues included food storage that did not follow specifications, workers who had not received typhoid injections, and workers who had not attended food handling courses.

DBKL also said offences related to smoking restrictions and licensing conditions were detected.

Six premises ordered to close

As a result of the operation, six food premises were ordered to close under By-Law 28(1) of the Food Establishment Licensing By-Laws WPKL 2016.

The closure orders were issued after the premises failed to meet the required cleanliness standards.

DBKL said it will continue strengthening enforcement efforts to ensure food premises in Kuala Lumpur comply with the law, while safeguarding cleanliness, food safety, and the wellbeing of city residents.
