DAP Decides To Stay In Unity Government Following Delegates’ Vote

More than 2,000 delegates took part in vote.
DAP has voted to remain in Malaysia’s Unity Government following a delegates’ conference held today (Aug 16).

The party put the question of whether it should continue being part of the federal government to its central delegates, with the majority voting in favour of staying.

A total of 1,857 delegates supported the move.

According to the party, 2,223 central delegates attended the conference, making up 52.12% of the 4,264 delegates eligible to attend, reported Sin Chew Daily.

Of those present, 2,106 participated in the vote.

In the end, 1,857 voted in favour of DAP remaining in the Unity Government.

The decision means DAP ministers and deputy ministers will continue serving in the Cabinet for the remainder of the current government’s term.

The party is also expected to continue pushing its reform agenda and fulfilling promises made to voters.

Delegates raised concerns over pace of reforms

The closely watched vote also included a debate involving representatives from all 14 states.

Each state sent one representative to speak and express their views on whether DAP should remain in the government.

Several representatives reportedly raised concerns over the pace of government reforms, relations with coalition partners and certain policies.

Despite these concerns, all 14 representatives supported DAP remaining in the government.

They also called on the party to push for reforms more quickly and strengthen accountability during the remaining term.

Earlier this year, DAP secretary general Anthony Loke said the party would allow its central delegates to decide whether it should continue being part of the federal government.

Reported by Sin Chew Daily, Loke said the party would hold a delegates’ conference at an appropriate time to debate and vote on the matter.

The vote would determine whether DAP should remain in the federal government until the end of the current parliamentary term.

Following today’s decision, the party will continue as part of the Unity Government.
