Remember This Sleeveless Dress Incident? Here’s Cyberjaya Hospital’s Response To It

It said the woman was only "advised" to follow the dress code.
Last week, we reported of a woman who accused a public hospital of enforcing attire policing after she was allegedly barred from entering the premise due to her wearing a sleeveless dress.

Ever since the post was first published, netizens have reacted to it with anger, with many slamming the hospital of overstepping its authority in deciding who gets to enter based on their attire.

Hospital issues response

A statement was issued by Cyberjaya Hospital on its official Facebook page on Wednesday (Oct 1), where it reiterated that implementing visitor dress codes are standard practice at most public health facilities.

It also denied the woman’s allegations of being prohibited from entering the hospital, adding that she was merely “advised” to follow the guidelines but was eventually given permission to visit at the hospital’s discretion.

“Cyberjaya Hospital would like to emphasise that for patients who come for treatment, they will be accepted in any situation, especially during emergencies. Patients are exempt from the dress code and are never denied the right to receive treatment.”

However, the hospital made no mention of the woman’s claim that she was only given five minutes to visit her brother.

The incident also drew the attention of Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, who commented on it during an enforcement operation, reported FMT.

When asked for his thoughts, Dzulkefly said discretion and good communication was necessary in such situations and urged health facilities to exercise discretion in each case and avoid escalating conflicts.
