Last month, the famed Korean convenience store chain CU Convenience Store made its first appearance at Centrepoint Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya. Since its grand opening, Malaysians have been queuing for up to an hour to taste freshly cooked in-store Korean street food and snacks.
Guess what? The long-awaited second outlet is finally here at Bandar Puteri Puchong!
For those who have yet to visit this Korean convenience store, we’re sure you are dying to know which snacks and food you should try during your next visit!
Here is a list of products that are guaranteed to arouse the foodie in you!
1. K-Cheezy Corn Sausage
Ever craved this cheesy delight when you’re binge-watching K-dramas? This crispy-battered and deep-fried snack is no stranger to all K-culture lovers. Coated with cheese and generously drizzled with ketchup and mustard, this is an iconic Korean street food you shouldn’t miss!
Price: RM 8.99
Our Recommendation: ★★★★★
2. Tteokbokki (Korean rice cake)
How could we miss out tteokbokki on this list?
CU offers two flavours, the Spicy Sauce Tteokbokki and the Jajang Tteokbokki. We tried the Spicy Sauce and fell in love upon the first bite! It was chewy and delicious as it was glazed with fiery gochujang.
Don’t want to eat one flavour alone? How about mixing both and get the best of both worlds?
Price: RM 7.99
Our Recommendation: ★★★★★
3. Dakgangjeong (Korean fried chicken)
Koreans are the masters of fried chicken, hands down. (Don’t @ us)
This finger-licking-good Korean style fried chicken doused in the classic gochujang paste and coated with sesame seed is a must-try. If you think you can take the heat, be warned – your tongue (and body) might be on fire soon!
Price: RM 8.99
Our Recommendation: ★★★★✩
4. Peanut Butter Bingsu
After having all the hearty, spicy food, it’s time for dessert! ‘Bingsu’ (which means “ice” and “water” in Korean) is a popular shaved ice dessert, especially during summertime.
There’s a total of five unique flavours, Choco Bingsu, Goguma Bingsu, Black Sesame Bingsu, Peanut Butter Bingsu and Mango Bingsu. But we’ve got to hand it to the Peanut Butter Bingsu as it was the perfect one for peanut butter addicts like us!
Price: RM5.99
Our Recommendation: ★★★★✩
5. Omija & Sweet Pumpkin Sikhye
Skihye is a non-alcoholic fermented drink that’s made from malt and rice. If you’re looking for something to quench your thirst, why not try the Omija and Sweet Pumpkin Sikhye?
Both are refreshingly good and are perfect for a hot, sunny day. Omija is a traditional Korean tea made from dried magnolia berries, whereas the Sweet Pumpkin is made from…well, pumpkins!
Our Recommendation: ★★★✩✩
Now, let’s take you on a tour to CU’s Grab & Go section that offers authentic Korean meals and desserts, including bulgogi rice sets, rice balls, kimchi gimbap, and more!
6. K-pop Idol Sandwich
Yes, you read this correctly, and no, this isn’t made from literal K-pop stars. Also known as the ‘Inkigayo sandwich’, it was dubbed as the ‘K-pop Idol Sandwich’ as many Korean celebrities have been raving over it and munching it down too.
This uniquely flavorful and fluffy sandwich contains thick layers of potato egg salad, chopped crabstick meat, and strawberry jam, producing a combination you have never tasted before.
There are many other sandwiches, but this one takes the top spot. However, please take note that it doesn’t turn you into a K-pop celebrity after you’ve eaten it. ?
Price: RM 4.90
Our Recommendation: ★★★★✩

7. Mango sensation mousse roll
If you’re looking for something adventurous, this is definitely for you. But for those who can’t handle sambal, you’ve been warned.
Aside from its enormous size, what makes these rice balls special is their strong buldak (fire chicken) taste, which kicks things up a notch compared to its usual white rice version.
Price: RM 5.90
Our Recommendation: ★★★✩✩
Last but not least, we would like to introduce you to Delaffe and Heyroo, two exclusive brands at CU Malaysia.
9. Heyroo Double Caramel Popcorn
Sorely missing the popcorn you used to eat at the cinema? You can now bring Heyroo’s Double Caramel Popcorn home and chow it down during your Netflix session!
With its thick caramel sauce coating, we are sure you won’t stop until the last kernel. and will make you won’t stop snacking.

In conjunction with the second outlet’s opening, CU Malaysia has launched some new Heyroo snacks as well. Heyroo Melon Milk Snack is one of the new items you have to check out on your next visit.

Brand manager Abby told WeirdKaya that the Americano Sweet flavour is loved by Koreans, while the Hazelnut flavour is the best-selling item among Malaysians. They come in convenience packets and is the perfect pick-me-up for those in a hurry.
