Covid-19 Cases Rise By 57% In M’sia, Public Urged To Practice Good Hygiene

Time to mask up again.
With almost the entire Malaysian population receiving at least two doses of the Covid-19 vaccine when it was first rolled out in 2021, active cases have steadily decreased and everyone has begun travelling within the country extensively.

However, there has been a spike in Covid-19 cases in recent weeks, prompting the Ministry of Health (MOH) to issue a public statement urging the public to practice caution and good hygiene.

Additionally, four new variants of the Omicron virus have been reported and all those are Variants of Concern (VOC).

Despite the concerning numbers, MOH assured that everything is under control and that the healthcare system isn’t overwhelmed for the time being.

How to keep yourself safe from Covid-19?

In light of the sharp increase in Covid-19 cases, the MOH has outlined the following guidelines for Malaysians to follow:

  • Maintain proper hygiene by washing hands with soap and water regularly or using sanitisers.
  • Affected individuals should rest at home and avoid crowded areas. When in public, it’s crucial to wear masks correctly to minimise virus transmission.
  • The elderly, individuals with chronic illnesses, those with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women are particularly encouraged to wear masks.
  • Implement TRIIS (Test, Report, Isolate, Inform, and Seek) if you’re affected.
  • Those experiencing worsening symptoms, especially in high-risk groups, should seek immediate medical attention.
  • High-risk individuals found positive with COVID-19 should consider Paxlovid antiviral treatment, available at nearby government clinics.
  • Vaccination, including primary and booster doses, is recommended at government clinics to lower virus transmission and reduce mortality in high-risk groups.
