Couple Pumps 71 Litres Of RON95 Into Jerry Cans At JB Petrol Station, Has BUDI95 Perk Taken Away

This comes after the MOF blocked access to their MyKad.
A couple in Johor were caught pumping massive amounts of subsidised RON95 petrol into multiple jerry cans—an act that is illegal under Malaysian law.

As a result, they have since lost access to their MyKads and are unable to enjoy BUDI95 benefits in the future.

Pumped RM234 worth of RON95

In a Facebook post, it showed the couple filling up several empty jerry cans which were loaded in the boot of a black sedan bearing a Johor car plate with RON95 petrol.

When the camera zoomed in to the petrol pump display, it showed that the couple had pumped 71.77 litres of petrol amounting to RM234.69.

After filling up the jerry cans, the couple then went to another petrol pump to refuel the car.

Their act left the OP bewildered, who asked in the caption whether they decided to pump more petrol than usual due to soaring petrol prices caused by the ongoing Iran war.

The OP also noted that although the couple were technically allowed to pump RON95 into their Malaysian-registered vehicle, they expressed safety concerns as it may lead to a fire or explosion.

According to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), no one is allowed to purchase more than 20 litres of fuel in containers without a valid permit, where offenders face legal action and a fine if caught.

MyKad blocked

Following the incident, the Ministry of Finance (MOF) said that it will move to block the MyKad belonging to the car owner spotted in the viral clip, reported FMT.

This means that they will no longer be able to enjoy subsidised RON95 petrol under the BUDI95 scheme.

The ministry added that the couple’s actions were unlawful as it was a blatant abuse of subsidised fuel.

“Enforcement action will be increased to prevent such irresponsible acts. The government will not compromise with any sort of leakage or abuse of subsidies, especially during these uncertain times that require stricter control on fuel prices,” it said.
