With Covid-19 cases not showing any signs of improvement, parents have become increasingly worried about their children’s safety as not all may follow the SOPs and will expose others to the virus.

A netizen named CitizenM#stayhomebesafe launched a petition on Change.org calling upon the Minister of Education Radzi Jidin to rethink the Ministry’s plan to reopen schools. The petition also wants the MoE to keep schools closed (especially those in red zones) until Covid-19 cases drop to two figures.

In the petition’s description, she highlighted the dangers of opening schools too quickly:

“Our country is still under the Emergency period and there is still a high number of cases. It is ILLOGICAL to open school while numbers are high. We don’t want to lose our children’s lives because of KPM’s wrong decision… Just like what happened last year where we saw the deadly virus infecting [sic] not only children but others living in the same house & community. “

As of 1 pm today, 7,617 people have signed the petition.

What do you think about schools reopening? Are you for or against it?
