A Malaysian woman has gone viral after sharing a WhatsApp conversation showing how a company backed out of hiring her the moment she asked for an offer letter.
Her caption summed up the situation perfectly:
Am I wrong for asking for an offer letter?”
For many netizens, the answer was a clear no.
Asked to start work, but no offer letter
In the screenshot, the company instructed her to start work on 3 February at 9am. She replied politely, saying she would wait for the offer letter and even provided her email address.
The company then claimed they would only issue the appointment letter after one month of work, which immediately raised concerns.
The woman responded by explaining that an offer letter should be issued before a new employee starts work, and that she wanted everything black and white.
Not long after, the company ended the conversation abruptly, saying they had already found another candidate.
Job scope and salary didn’t match the job ad
The woman later added that the company appeared to be struggling to hire staff for the role.
She also claimed:
- The job scope discussed during the interview differed from what was stated in the job advertisement
- She was offered RM1,700 basic salary with RM300 attendance allowance
- However, the job ad stated the salary starts from RM2,800
According to her, the situation made her feel as if the company expected her to accept anything without question.
She “dodged a bullet”
