While many understand that festive periods mean longer hours and heavier workloads for F&B workers, one Malaysian has taken to social media to remind staff that being busy is not an excuse for poor service.
In a post shared online, the individual said he wanted to gently call out certain F&B workers, especially those serving customers during the CNY rush.
“No need to show attitude”
While he acknowledged that restaurants are busy during festive seasons, he said there was no reason to display a bad attitude.
I know it’s almost CNY and restaurants are busy. But there’s no need to make angry faces, slam things around, or throw items.
According to the netizen, some staff were seen looking visibly annoyed, handling items roughly, and appearing unfriendly towards customers.
‘Customers come to pay, not eat for free’
The individual also shared that he personally worked in the F&B industry during festive periods, including Chinese New Year, Hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Haji, and even Merdeka Day.
Despite working on public holidays, he said he never treated customers rudely.
“Respect the customers. They come and pay, not come to eat for free,” he wrote.

He added that good manners and professionalism should always come first, regardless of how busy the restaurant is.
“If you’re too tired to work, then maybe don’t work,” he concluded.
Netizens weigh in
The post has since sparked discussions online, with many agreeing that while F&B work can be physically and mentally exhausting, especially during festive seasons — basic courtesy should still be maintained.
Others, however, pointed out that customers should also be patient and understanding, as workers are often overwhelmed during peak periods.
