Fireworks, countdowns, and drama—it’s the holy trinity of a good New Year’s Eve.
But this year, the biggest drama didn’t come from a loud countdown or dazzling lights in the sky.
It came from Yoyo, a chonky cat with the attitude of a diva, who was not having it when fireworks failed to show up at Padang Kota Lama (Esplanade), Penang.
His hilarious reaction? Sulking on his owner’s shoulder like a disappointed VIP, and TikTok absolutely loved it.
It all started when Syaf and her husband decided to celebrate New Year’s Eve at Padang Kota Lama (Esplanade), Penang.
They brought along their chonky and lovable cat, Yoyo, who is known for his dramatic personality.

The couple, like many others, were eagerly looking forward to a grand fireworks display to welcome 2025.
But as midnight approached, it became clear that the only thing lighting up the night was… well, nothing.

No fireworks, no sparkle—just a collective wave of confusion and disappointment.
Yoyo’s reaction was the ultimate mood. In a now-viral TikTok video, the chonky boy could be seen scanning the crowd before dramatically leaning his head onto Syaf’s husband’s shoulder, as if to say, “I left my cosy spot at home for this?”

“We got scammed. Never mind, we’ll just buy our own fireworks next time,” the couple quipped, trying to salvage the night.
Later, Syaf explained in the comments that they had received a flyer saying there would be fireworks at the venue.
“If we’d known there weren’t any, we wouldn’t have gone to Padang Kota,” she said.

‘He loves to sulk if you take something away from him ‘
Speaking to WeirdKaya, Syaf shared more about what went down that night.

The couple had arrived at Padang Kota an hour early, giving Yoyo plenty of time to charm the crowd with his sulky face—something he’s apparently famous for.
“When the fireworks didn’t happen, some of Yoyo’s fans suggested we go to Queensbay Mall, where there was still a small fireworks display happening,” Syaf revealed.
“At least we got to see some regular fireworks to make Yoyo happy.”
Turns out, Yoyo’s sulking isn’t a one-time thing. “He loves to sulk if you take something away from him because he really understands what we say,” Syaf revealed.
Basically, Yoyo isn’t just a cat—he’s a furry diva with feelings, and we’re here for it.
To top it all off, Yoyo’s birthday is coming up on January 5th, and he’ll be turning four. Safe to say, the celebrations better live up to his high standards.
Yoyo’s viral video didn’t just capture his disappointment; it captured hearts too. TikTok users couldn’t get enough of his unbothered attitude and bravery around fireworks.
“Wow, Yoyo is so brave… Not scared of the fireworks,” one commenter wrote, clearly impressed.

“If it were other cats, they’d be panicking and hiding, but not Yoyo.” another added.

With Chinese New Year just around the corner, Syaf and her husband are planning another outing to give Yoyo the fireworks show he deserves.
But knowing Yoyo, there’s bound to be more dramatic reactions, some sulking, and a lot of laughs along the way.
For now, fans can keep up with Yoyo’s antics on TikTok, where his larger-than-life personality continues to win hearts.
