Citizens from China top the list when it comes to purchasing properties in Malaysia, recent figures showed.
According to NST and The Sun Malaysia, 744 individuals successfully bought properties under the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme.
During a Parliamentary session today, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing said another 2,637 participants are currently in the process of acquiring homes, including finalising sale and purchase agreements.

“As of Dec 31, 2025, the top 10 nationalities for property purchases under the new phase of MM2H were China with 304 buyers, followed by Taiwan (91), Singapore (63), United States (41), United Kingdom (40), Hong Kong (34), Australia (29), Bangladesh (19), South Korea (15), Indonesia (14), and Japan (14).”
Tiong was answering a question posed by Dungun MP Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli, who asked for the latest figures on houses sold to foreigners via MM2H from 2023 to 2025.
‘Not a pathway to citizenship’
Wan Hassan also asked how many participants had obtained citizenship via MM2H, to which Tiong responded by saying no such avenue was provided.
The MM2H programme has never involved applications for permanent residency or citizenship. It only offers a long-term social visit pass with multiple-entry visa facilities, where foreigners can stay from five to 20 years.

“There are four categories: Platinum (20 years), Gold (15 years), Silver (5 years), and Special Economic Zone (10 years).
“The pass validity for all categories is five years per cycle. Participants may renew it until the full duration of their respective category expires,” he explained.
When asked by Tampin MP Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa whether there were plans to offer MM2H participation to other countries aside from China and Taiwan, Tiong said it was open to anyone regardless of nationality.
“Applicants from Arab countries are also accepted, and some have made purchases, although the figure isn’t high. We will step up promotional efforts in this aspect,” he added.
