A Chinese national who is currently studying at a private university in Malaysia was charged in court for slashing his ex-girlfriend at the university’s grounds last week.
However, the accused, 22-year-old You Wei, pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read out to him at the Shah Alam Sessions Court today, reported FMT.

According to the charge sheet, You was accused of causing grievous hurt to his ex-girlfriend by stabbing her in the left side of her neck with a knife at a private university in Sunway on July 14.
The charge, which was framed under Section 326 of the Penal Code, carries a prison term of up to 20 years, a fine, or whipping, upon conviction.
Upon hearing the charge, You told the court he understood it but “disagreed”.
Granted bail by court
Deputy public prosecutor Nurul Sofea Jaysal requested the court not to grant You bail, arguing that he was a flight risk.
You’s lawyer, Â Revin Kumar, countered by saying his client was ready to follow any bail conditions imposed by the court.
He wants to answer this charge. He will be here as he is completing his studies. He also suffers bipolar disorder and was taking medication for his condition.
You was eventually allowed to post bail of RM20,000 with two sureties by Judge Norazlin Othman but was ordered not to disturb the victim and witnesses.
She also ordered him to surrender his passport and report to the nearest police station every month and fixed Sept 17 for mention.

The victim, who suffered a slash wound to her neck, was rushed to University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) for treatment while You was tackled to the ground by other students.
It was later revealed that You attacked his ex-girlfriend as he was angry over her claims that he had prevented her from leaving the house.
